Make yourself a priority

July 5, 2017

The women in my family are do-ers.  They do everything within their power to care for, and protect their families. I couldn’t give you an example of a time in my life where they didn’t make their loved ones a priority.

On the other hand, I could give you several examples of times where they didn’t make themselves a priority. The hustle and bustle of maintaining a household while shuttling kids and grandkids around can get in the way of a lot of things. But it shouldn’t get in the way of your health.

Ladies, it’s time to make yourself a priority and take charge of your health. Come down to Grafton-Taylor County Health Department’s Women’s Health Fair on July 14th and learn what you can do to protect your health. Staff will consist of a nurse practitioner, several skilled public health nurses, and clerks answering questions regarding your health.

The following services will be offered: “Bonnie’s Bus” Mobile Mammography Program, pap smears, pelvic exams, blood pressure screenings, blood sugar screenings, and more.

No insurance? No problem! The federal government supplements several programs such as the Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Screening Program (BCCSP) and the Family Planning program. BCCSP is a public health program designed to help uninsured and underinsured women gain access to breast and cervical cancer screenings. Family Planning is also a public health program, but it has a different focus. It’s designed to help girls and women plan their families on their terms by providing birth control, pregnancy testing, and exams at low to no cost.

If you, or any of the women in your life may benefit from these services, please call the office at 304-265-1288 and ask for our Public Health Nurse, Angela Flowers. We are looking forward to your call!
